The secret to managing termites is to be proactive. For this reason, protecting the structure before it is created requires the installation of a top notch termite barrier system from the ground up in new building projects.

In this episode, we follow Allstate’s senior technician Darren Simes as he oversees the installation of the Kordon Termite Barrier at a residential construction site in Adelaide.

The Kordon installation process

1. Preparation

Before any concrete is poured, Darren and his team map out the area where the Kordon barrier will be installed. They take precise measurements to guarantee that the barrier forms an impenetrable barrier across the entire building footprint.

2. Barrier installation

Next, the flexible Kordon sheeting is unrolled and fixed at regular intervals using specialised termite-resistant nails pushed through the built-in pressure plates. Corners and joints are carefully inspected to prevent any potential openings for termites to enter.

3. Protecting joints

Throughout the installation, Darren demonstrates proper techniques for safely setting Kordon sheets at cold joints, concrete slabs, and locations where pipes or conduits would eventually penetrate the slab. These are essential details to get right.

4. Final inspection

Once the entire barrier is in place, Darren methodically inspects every inch, checking that the sheets are properly securely fastened and that there are no gaps in the protective barrier. He also takes photographs of the completed installation.

Have you ever wondered how professionals conduct a termite inspection? Our Pest Control in Action video series gives you a behind-the-scenes look at how we take on tough pest situations.

In this episode, join us as we shadow Pest Technician Scott on a mission to conduct an annual termite inspection at a residential property in Adelaide.

Termite infestations pose a serious threat to homes. Termites silently cause extensive damage to structures if you leave your property unchecked. Identifying and addressing these infestations early is crucial to prevent costly repairs.

The pest control process

1. Wall inspection
Scott begins his inspection indoors, combing through every nook and cranny of the house. With a high-performance moisture meter, he assesses moisture levels and scans walls for any signs of termite activity or damage.
2. Roof void inspection
Moving into the roof void, Scott carefully examines this area for any indications of termite intrusion or damage caused by other pests.
3. External inspection
With the indoor assessment complete, Scott shifts his focus to the exterior of the property. From the front yard to the backyard, he inspects all external walls and areas prone to moisture, such as piles of stumps, which can attract termites.

The result

Fortunately, Scott’s thorough inspection yielded reassuring results. No signs of termite activity or damage were detected during the examination, providing the homeowner with peace of mind until the next termite inspection in 12 months.

In this episode, Allstate Pest Control technician John is conducting a yearly pest control treatment at a residential property. As the homeowner explains, this annual service is crucial in maintaining a pest-free environment, helping to manage any existing infestations and prevent future problems.

The pest control process

1. Inspection and dusting

2. Targeted spraying

John then moves on to the general spray application. Armed with his professional-grade equipment, he applies a residual insecticide around the perimeter of the house, sheds, fences, and other trouble spots. Have you ever wondered how professionals deal with termite problems? Our Pest Control in Action video series gives you a behind-the-scenes look at how we take on tough pest situations.

In this episode, Allstate pest technician Josh is tasked with conducting a termite inspection and installing the Sentricon termite management system at a residential property in Adelaide.

The termite control process

Inspection

Josh begins by thoroughly inspecting the interior of the home, checking for any signs of termite activity or damage. While he finds high moisture levels in the front room shower tiles (a conducive condition), there are no active termites or termite damage detected inside.

Roof void check

Next, Josh enters the roof void to closely examine this area. Pleasingly, he finds no termites, rodent droppings, or evidence of any other pest issues up in the roof space.

Sentricon installation

With no immediate termite threats identified, Josh proceeds to install the Sentricon system as a preventative measure. After marking out the station locations with the homeowner, he digs into the soil around the property’s perimeter and places the discrete Sentricon bait stations at strategic points.

Ongoing monitoring

To maintain maximum termite protection, the Sentricon system requires regular monitoring by Allstate technicians, who will inspect the stations every 3 months and replenish baits as needed. Based on his assessment, Josh recommends the homeowner continue with annual termite inspections.

The result

Allstate’s trusted Sentricon system provides reliable protection and monitoring to keep termites at bay. Josh’s diligent work has given this home a strong defensive line against potential termite infestations.

Pest Control in Action: How to Control Termites with Chemical Treatment

Have you ever wondered how professionals deal with termite problems? Our Pest Control in Action video series gives you a behind-the-scenes look at how we take on tough pest situations.

When termites are detected, professional pest controllers must act quickly to manage the infestation and protect the property. In this Pest Control in Action episode, we follow Allstate technician Josh as he carries out a comprehensive chemical termite treatment.

The chemical termite treatment process

  • Preparation
Josh begins by clearing access paths around the exterior walls of the home to allow for efficient treatment. Since this property had been previously treated, he locates the pre-existing drill holes to be reused.
  • Exterior Drill and Inject
Using a specialised drill, Josh reopens the series of holes around the home’s perimeter at regular intervals. This allows the termiticide chemical to be pressure-injected into the soil surrounding the property.
  • Interior Drill and Inject
Moving indoors, Josh also drills new holes through interior walls and injects termiticide into any potential termite entry points from inside the home.
  • Sub-Floor Spraying
In properties with accessible underfloor areas, Josh applies a liquid termiticide spray throughout the sub-floor space to create another defensive barrier against termites.
  • Hole Patching
After the chemical injections, Josh carefully patches up all the drill holes using cement to conceal the treatment points.

The result

The homeowners can breathe easy thanks to Allstate’s comprehensive termite treatment. Their team managed any existing termite threats and established long-lasting protection with a quality barrier that will safeguard the property for up to 5 years.

Pest Control in Action: How to Manage Pigeon Problems

forktree project tim

If you get a pest outbreak, have you ever wondered how we’ll treat it?

Well wonder no more. Our new series, Pest Control in Action, gives you a glimpse into how we tackle outbreaks of all of your ‘favourite’ (aka most dreaded) pests.

This week, Allstate pest technicians Stephen and Nikolas (Kiki) are tasked with a heavy pigeon infestation at a property. After sitting vacant for 8 months, allowing pigeons to really make themselves at home and leave behind a huge mess.

Kiki recommended installing bird netting and gutter guards to prevent future issues, but first the technicians needed to give the property a deep clean to manage all the droppings, debris and nesting materials left behind by the feathery squatters.

The pigeon control process

  • Diagnosis
Pigeons have been roosting and nesting throughout the property, leaving behind substantial accumulations of droppings, fouling, and nesting materials in gutters, roof voids, courtyards, and other areas.
  • Vacuum cleaning
The first major step is to vacuum and extract all the pigeon waste and debris using powerful industrial vacuums with specialised attachments. This rigorous cleaning process targets gutters, roof cavities, solar panels, and even hard-to-reach nooks and crannies where droppings and nests may have built up.
  • High pressure cleaning
Following the vacuum treatment, the technicians employ high-pressure water jets to thoroughly cleanse and sanitise all affected surfaces like walls, roofs, and courtyards, blasting away any residual staining or grime left behind by the pigeons.
  • Gutter guard and bird netting installation
With the property now disinfected, focus turns to prevention. Gutter guards are installed to inhibit future nesting in gutters, while bird netting is strategically placed to create physical barriers, denying pigeons access to previous roosts and potential new nesting sites.

The result

What was once a dilapidated eyesore covered in droppings and nests is now a clean, well-maintained premises thanks to Allstate’s diligent efforts. After thoroughly removing all traces of the pigeon infestation, they implemented preventative measures to make the location inhospitable to these winged pests going forward.
