Home / glossary / Secondary Inoculum

Secondary Inoculum:In ecology, secondary inoculum refers to a population of organisms that becomes established after the primary inoculum. The term is often used in relation to pest outbreaks, where the secondary inoculum may consist of pests that have been introduced to an area by humans or other animals. Secondary inoculum can also refer to the roots that develop from the base of a plant, or the spread of a disease or other condition to new areas.
