Grassed Waterway

Grassed Waterway: A grassed waterway is a ditch or channel that has been planted with grasses or other vegetation. Grassed waterways are used to manage stormwater runoff and prevent erosion.

Green Manure

Green Manure:Green manure is a type of cover crop that is grown specifically to be incorporated into the soil. Green manures are typically leguminous plants, such as clover or alfalfa, that are grown for a few months before being plowed under. The main purpose of green manure is to improve soil fertility and tilth. Green manure can also help to suppress weeds and reduce erosion.

ground cover

Ground Cover:Ground cover is any type of plant that is used to cover the ground. Ground cover can be used for aesthetic purposes, to prevent erosion, or to suppress weeds. Common types of ground cover include grasses, sedges, and mosses.

Groundwater

Groundwater:Groundwater is water that has percolated down through the soil and been stored in the pores of rocks and other materials beneath the surface of the earth. Groundwater is a major source of water for drinking, irrigation, and industry. Groundwater can also be a significant contributor to surface water bodies during times of high flow.

Groundwater Under the Direct Influence of Surface Water

Groundwater Under the Direct Influence of Surface Water:Groundwater under the direct influence of surface water (GWUDI) is groundwater that has been contaminated by contact with surface water bodies (such as lakes, rivers, or oceans). GWUDI can occur when there is a break in the groundwater system (such as a well) that allows surface water to enter and mix with the groundwater. GWUDI can also occur when there is enough rainfall or snowmelt that recharge from surface water bodies exceeds infiltration rates and causes groundwater to rise up towards the surface.
