Ultra Low Volume (ULV)

Ultra Low Volume (ULV):Ultra low volume (ULV) spraying is a method of applying pesticides using very small droplets. ULV spraying can be done using either ground-based or aerial equipment. This type of spraying is often used for mosquito control, as it allows for a large area to be covered with a relatively small amount of pesticide. ULV spraying can also be used for other pest control applications, such as agriculture and forestry.

Uncertainty Factor (UF)

Uncertainty Factor (UF):An uncertainty factor (UF) is a number used to account for uncertainty in the data used to assess risk. UFs are used in both toxicology and epidemiology. In toxicology, UFs are used to extrapolate from animal data to humans; in epidemiology, UFs are used to extrapolate from small studies to the general population. UFs are usually multiplied by a dose or exposure level to estimate an acceptable level of risk.

Underground Sources of Drinking Water

Underground Sources of Drinking Water:Underground sources of drinking water (USDWs) are aquifers that supply water for public drinking water systems. USDWs are protected from contamination by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The SDWA requires public water systems to test their water for contaminants and take steps to protect USDWs from contamination.

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA): The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is a federal executive department responsible for developing and executing U.S. federal government policy on farming, agriculture, forestry, and food.

Unreasonable Risk

Unreasonable Risk: A risk is unreasonable if it is not justified by the benefits of the activity that creates the risk. An unreasonable risk is one that a reasonable person would not take.
