Home / glossary / Non-Target Organism

A non-target organism is an organism that is not the intended target of a particular action or activity. For example, when a pesticide is applied to a field to kill insects that are damaging crops, the pesticide may also kill other organisms such as birds or bees that are not the intended target. Non-target organisms can be harmed by both direct and indirect exposure to pesticides.
