Home / glossary / Non-Point Sources

Non-point sources (NPS) of pollution are diffuse sources that do not have a single point of origin or discharge. NPS pollution can come from many different sources, including agricultural activities, urban runoff, and atmospheric deposition. NPS pollution is one of the most difficult types of pollution to control because it is often spread over large areas and is not easily traced back to its source.
