Termite Inspection

Termite inspections are key in the early detection of termite attack. The Australian Standards and CSIRO recommend getting a termite inspection at least yearly and in some cases more frequently, depending on your susceptibility to a termite attack.

Allstate termite inspection service

Allstate Pest Control performs termite and white ant inspections in accordance with Australian Standards. Our qualified termite technicians are experienced are receive ongoing training so that they can carry out the most comprehensive inspection possible. While every home and property is unique we have developed a set inspection checklist ensuring nothing is missed:

  • Interior – each room within the interior is checked top to bottom including doorframes, skirting boards, cupboards, floor surfaces and wall surfaces using a moisture metre, sounding tool and screwdriver.
  • Roof void – where possible we gain access to the roof void, thoroughly checking over the timbers using a sounding tool and screwdriver.
  • Subfloor – where present we highly recommend inspection of the subfloor spaces, as most termite attacks begin in homes and properties with subfloors. Access is gained by either cutting traps into the floor or by using our Borescope technology to check for signs of termite entry.
  • Exterior – the full perimeter of the house is inspected from the foundation edge to the fascia using a sounding tool and screwdriver.
  • Outbuildings – each and every outbuilding is inspected inside and out using a sounding tool and screwdriver.
  • Grounds – the grounds of the house are inspected, including landscaping timbers, gardens beds, trees, stumps and the fence line

On completion of the termite inspection service, our termite technician will explain the findings to you. They will then send you a detailed report including photos and proposals for any commercial pest control recommendations.

Allstate Adelaide’s pre-purchase timber pest service

Allstate’s pre-purchase inspections exceed the Australian Standard 4349.3.

In most cases our professional, licenced inspectors will conduct a non-invasive visual inspection of areas susceptible to attack by timber pest.

We will inspect the building and provide a comprehensive report on the following:

  • Evidence of timber pests
  • Severity of damage caused
  • Susceptibility of building to infestation
  • Remedial and protective measures required
  • Further investigations required

Allstate pre-purchase inspections are prepared then emailed or faxed on the same day of inspection.

After purchasing our home and finding some damage to our wooden floor boards I organised a Termite inspection. Josh who did our inspection was nothing short of amazing. He was so thorough and also spent the time to explain damage and issues with our home that we should have looked at. He spent an extra 2 hours than he was supposed to, to ensure every inch of the house was checked thoroughly. I couldn't recommend this company or Josh highly enough!

Mark from Allstate Pest Control did a Termite Inspection to our house. He arrived on time and was very professional. He did a great job and was very efficient. He was also nice to talk to. Gave us a partial verbal report and sent a copy of the report of the inspection as well. He also gave us an advise on what signs to look out for which showed that he’s really knowledgeable of what he does. Highly recommended not just the company but Mark as well.

Termite Management Systems

Premise Treated Zones

Premise is a non-repellent termiticide suited to South Australian construction methods and environmental conditions. When termites pass through the Premise ‘treated zone’, they stop feeding, become disorientated, cease grooming and begin to neglect their environment. Soon, naturally occurring fungi and microorganisms in the soil take their toll, with the unwanted guests becoming fatally diseased and then dying.

All of this takes place with minimal environmental impact. Although Premise is lethal to termites, its specific mode of action is non-hazardous for humans, pets and wildlife.

Sentricon Always Active

Sentricon® AlwaysActive™ is the new and very different way of continuously protecting your home against termites – harnessing the natural behaviour and biology of termites, together with a highly effective termiticide. Sentricon AlwaysActive is a unique and environmentally sensitive termite control system that protects your home by managing termites before they are even discovered.

How does Sentricon Always Active Work?

The Sentricon station is installed strategically and discreetly around the home in termites’ prime foraging areas.

The stations contain Sentricon In-Ground Termiticide Rods which the termites find more palatable and more attractive than wood. The termites feed on the termiticide rods then tunnel back to the nest.

The active ingredient in Sentricon AlwaysActive is an insect growth regulator, which interrupts the termites’ moulting process. An inability to moult results in the death of the workers, and ultimately leads to the managment of the entire colony.

Kordon Termite Barrier

What is Kordon Termite Barrier?

Kordon is made in Adelaide and backed by Bayer – one of the world’s largest environmental science companies. Kordon has been extensively tested by the CSIRO and has been evaluated to have a durability and design life of 50 years, which is in-line with the life expectancy of a building as deemed by the Australian Buildings Code Board. Benefits of Kordon include the fact it is suited to all building applications, allergen-free and non-hazardous.

What is Kordon Made of?

Kordon comprises polyester webbing containing deltamethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid. This is laminated between two UV stable low-density polyehylene plastic sheets.

How does Kordon Work?

Kordon is installed where termites may attempt to gain access into a building. The deltamethrin in Kordon is highly repellent to termites and they will avoid close contact with it. Where Kordon is installed the termites will seek cellulose elsewhere or seek to go around the Kordon. When seeking to go around the Kordon the termites will build their mud tubes, which will be detected during an inspection by a suitably qualified timber pest inspector. We can then take steps to manage the termite colony before they do any significant damage.

When a system like Kordon is not installed, termites get concealed access for a long period of time, which results in significant and expensive damage.

Bayer Protection Warranty

Bayer offers Australia’s most comprehensive termite protection system, the Bayer Protection Program. If the building owner chooses to activate and be covered by the Bayer Protection Program, they will be protected by Bayer’s exclusive $1m warranty. Unlike many other warranties, this will ensure Bayer manages all remedial action and repair if termites do gain access to the home within the warranty period. This warranty is renewable annually for the life of the structure.

What you need to know about termite inspections from your home or business…

How do I know if I have termites?

Because they are secretive by nature it’s often very hard to know they are there and it’s only until the damage is done or the infestation is out of hand that you notice. Some signs of their presence are mud tunnelling against door frames & skirting boards, specks of mud on walls and soft spots on floors.

I have a new home. Am I right that termites won’t bother me?

Termites can infest a building at any-time even during its construction, regular termite inspections are highly recommended at least annually by the Australian Standards.

How do you do an inspection?

Our Technicians have a set routine when inspecting a home to ensure nothing is missed.

They begin with the internals, sounding timbers and walls, to running a Moisture Meter over timbers to detect unusual levels of moisture which can indicate termite activity.

They then check the under floors (where applicable) by accessing the subfloor via traps or using the Optic Fibre Borescope Technology to detect evidence of termite entry.

Following this they inspect the roof void, external perimeter, outbuildings, grounds, trees, landscaping timbers and fence line again sounding timbers and checking for the presence of activity.

I have timber floors should I have an underfloor inspection as well?

Yes, where you have timbers floors and an underfloor void called a subfloor it is highly recommended this area is inspected due to being the most likely termite entry point. We inspect this area typically via traps cut in the floor boards or by Optic Fibre Borescope Technology which only requires a small hole the size of a two dollar coin. We then seal the hole using colour matched plugs, these points can be used for future inspection.

What will be included in my inspection report?

Our Termite Inspection Reports are broken up into the key areas of your home including Photographs of findings and details of what was inspected, what couldn’t be inspected & why, evidence of termite activity & damage and conditions increasing the risk of attack. The report also covers recommendations for treatment, further invasive inspection where required and recommended future frequency of inspection.

What happens if they are found during the inspection?

If termite activity or damage is detected during the inspection the Technician will recommend treatment options and have a detailed proposal submitted with a copy of the report for Termite Control to be arranged.

How often should I have my house inspected?

There are a range of factors that could impact on the frequency of inspection for a house. At the very least an inspection annually is highly recommended by the Australian Standards.

All buildings are prone to termite infestations, particularly those with a timber frame. CSIRO recommends getting a termite inspection at least annually, but more frequent inspections may be necessary depending on the risk level of your building.

Our Termite technicians carry out a detailed inspection of your building which follows a comprehensive checklist. They check the interior, roof void, subfloor, exterior, outbuildings and the grounds to make sure no sign of termites is missed.

On completion the termite technician will explain the findings to you and then provide you with a detailed report and termite control recommendations.

Why do you need Termite Control?

Termites feed on timber, including the frames of your home or commercial premises. If you have an infestation, it can cost many thousands of dollars to repair the structural damage that they cause. This is why it’s essential to have a regular termite inspection and prevention program.

Termites are attracted to moist environments, so it’s a wise idea to fix any leaks in your home and remove moisture in your building as part of your total termite prevention plan. Whether or not your property has been treated, it’s important to keep up with regular inspections from a pest control professional to prevent the risk of a second infestation.

What is Termite Protection?

Most builders protect your home from during the building phase by installing barriers made from metal and cement materials. Other methods include chemical solutions to deter them from your home. A chemical treatment can be applied to the ground around the home, causing them to avoid it. Both chemical repellents will help protect your home.

What is White Ant Control?

White ants is just another name for termites, thanks to their white and light brown colours. Allstate Pest Control Adelaide offers White Ant Control to prevent and exterminate your timber-eating pests. Call us today to book a white ant inspection, control or removal pest service.
