How Do Termites Attack Buildings?
Termites forage from their nests in underground tunnels, searching for timber and other materials containing cellulose. They enter our houses through tiny cracks and crevices in, under, and around them.
How to Protect Your Adelaide Property from the Threat of Termites
The first step is to arrange for a termite inspection, as the Australian Standards and CSIRO recommend. One of our qualified termite control technicians will inspect the area to determine the risk of a termite attack and advise how to control the problem. If you know you have termites or want preventative protection, we provide free assessments and proposals based across Adelaide.
Call today and book our services to control termites, and we’ll arrive at your home or business promptly.

What Termite Inspection Entails
Termite inspections are key in the early detection of termite attacks. The Australian Standards and CSIRO recommend getting a termite inspection at least once a year and sometimes more frequently, depending on your susceptibility to a termite attack.
Allstate termite inspection service
Allstate Pest Control performs termite and white ant inspections in accordance with Australian Standards. Our qualified termite technicians are experienced and receive ongoing training to complete the most comprehensive inspection possible. While every home and property is unique we have developed a set inspection checklist ensuring nothing is missed:
- Interior – Using a moisture metre, sounding tool, and screwdriver, each room within the interior is checked top to bottom, including doorframes, skirting boards, cupboards, floor surfaces, and wall surfaces.
- Roof void – Where possible, we gain access to the roof void by thoroughly checking over the timbers using a sounding tool and screwdriver.
- Subfloor – Where present, we highly recommend inspecting the subfloor spaces, as most termite attacks begin in homes and properties with subfloors. Access is gained by either cutting traps into the floor or using our Borescope technology to check for signs of termite entry.
- Exterior – Using a sounding tool and screwdriver, inspect the full perimetre of the house from the foundation edge to the fascia.
- Outbuildings – Each outbuilding is inspected inside and out using a sounding tool and screwdriver.
- Grounds – the grounds of the house are inspected, including landscaping timbers, garden beds, trees, stumps and the fence line
Our termite technician will explain the findings to you upon completion of the termite inspection service. They will then send you a detailed report, including photos and proposals for termite control recommendations.
Pre-Purchase Timber Pest Inspection
Buying a house is the biggest purchase most people will ever make, but even if you have a building inspection it does not cover timber pests.
They only way to ensure you’re covered is to get a complete timber pest inspection report from a qualified, experienced termite and pest control professional. The pest inspection report should cover subterranean termites (white ants), borers of seasoned timber and wood decay fungi.
Allstate Adelaide’s pre-purchase timber pest service
Allstate’s pre-purchase inspections exceed the Australian Standard 4349.3.
In most cases our professional, licenced inspectors will conduct a non-invasive visual inspection of areas susceptible to attack by timber pest.
We will inspect the building and provide a comprehensive report on the following:
- Evidence of timber pests
- Severity of damage caused
- Susceptibility of building to infestation
- Remedial and protective measures required
- Further investigations required
Allstate pre-purchase inspections are prepared then emailed or faxed on the same day of inspection.

Allstate termite warranty

Premise Treated Zones
Premise is a non-repellent termiticide suited to South Australian construction methods and environmental conditions. When termites pass through the Premise ‘treated zone,’ they stop feeding, become disoriented, cease grooming, and neglect their environment. Soon, naturally occurring fungi and microorganisms in the soil take their toll, and the termites become fatally diseased and then die.
This process has minimal environmental impact. Although Premise is lethal to termites, its specific mode of action is non-hazardous for humans, pets, and wildlife.
Sentricon Always Active
Sentricon® AlwaysActive™ is a new and very different way of continuously protecting your home against termites. It harnesses natural behaviour and biology, together with a highly effective termiticide. Sentricon AlwaysActive is a unique and environmentally sensitive termite control system that protects your home by managing termites before they are even discovered.
How does Sentricon AlwaysActive Work?
The Sentricon station is installed strategically and discreetly around the home in termites’ prime foraging areas. The stations contain Sentricon In-Ground Termiticide Rods, which the termites find more palatable and attractive than wood. The termites feed on the rods and tunnel back to the nest.
Sentricon AlwaysActive’s active ingredient is an insect growth regulator interrupting the termites’ moulting process. If the termites cannot moult, the workers will die, ultimately leading to the management of the entire colony.
Kordon Termite Barrier
What is the Kordon Termite Barrier?
Kordon is made in Adelaide and backed by Bayer, one of the world’s largest environmental science companies. The CSIRO has extensively tested Kordon and evaluated it as having a durability and design life of 50 years, which is in line with the life expectancy of a building as deemed by the Australian Buildings Code Board. The benefits of Kordon include the fact that it is suited to all building applications, is allergen-free, and is non-hazardous.
What is Kordon Made of?
Kordon comprises polyester webbing containing deltamethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid. This webbing is laminated between two UV-stabilized low-density polyethene plastic sheets.
How does Kordon Work?
Kordon is installed where termites may attempt to gain access to a building. The deltamethrin in Kordon is highly repellent to termites, so they avoid close contact with it. Where Kordon is installed, the termites will seek cellulose elsewhere or seek to circumvent it. When seeking to circumvent Kordon, the termites will build their mud tubes, which will be detected during an inspection by a suitably qualified timber pest inspector. We can then take steps to manage the termite colony before they cause any significant damage.
When a system like Kordon is not installed, termites can gain long-term, concealed access, resulting in significant and expensive damage.
Bayer Protection Warranty
Bayer offers Australia’s most comprehensive termite protection system, the Bayer Protection Program. If the building owner chooses to activate and be covered by the Bayer Protection Program, they will be protected by Bayer’s exclusive $1m warranty. Unlike many other warranties, this will ensure Bayer manages all remedial action and repair if termites gain home access within the warranty period. This warranty is renewable annually for the life of the structure.

What you need to know about termite inspections from your home or business…
How do I know if I have termites?
Because they are secretive by nature, it’s often very hard to know they are there; You may not notice them until the damage is done or the infestation is out of hand. Some signs of their presence are mud tunnelling against door frames and skirting boards, specks of mud on walls, and soft spots on floors.
I have a new home. Am I right that termites won’t bother me?
Termites can infest a building at any time, even during its construction. Australian standards highly recommend regular termite inspections at least annually.
How do you do an inspection?
Our Technicians have a set routine when inspecting a home to ensure nothing is missed.
They begin with the internals, sounding timbers and walls and running a moisture metre over timbers to detect unusual moisture levels, which can indicate termite activity.
They then check the underfloor (where applicable) by accessing the subfloor via traps or using the Optic Fibre Borescope Technology to detect evidence of termite entry.
Following this, they inspect the roof void, external perimetre, outbuildings, grounds, trees, landscaping timbers and fence line, again sounding timbers and checking for the presence of activity.
I have timber floors. Should I have an underfloor inspection as well?
Yes, where you have timber floors and an underfloor void called a subfloor, it is highly recommended that this area be inspected, as it is the most likely termite entry point. We inspect this area typically via traps cut in the floorboards or by Optic Fibre Borescope Technology, which only requires a small hole the size of a two-dollar coin. We then seal the hole using colour-matched plugs. These points can be used for future inspection.
What will be included in my inspection report?
Our Termite Inspection Reports are divided into key areas of your home. They include photographs of findings and details of what was inspected, what could not be inspected, and why. The report also covers evidence of termite activity, damage, and conditions that increase the risk of attack. It also covers treatment recommendations, further invasive inspection where required, and recommended future inspection frequency.
What happens if they are found during the inspection?
If termite activity or damage is detected during the inspection, the Technician will recommend treatment options and have a detailed proposal submitted with a copy of the report for Termite Control to be arranged.
How often should I have my house inspected?
A range of factors could impact the frequency of a house’s inspection. Australian Standards highly recommend that it be inspected annually at a minimum.

Adelaide Pest Control
Complete Pest Control
Termite infestations cause major issues and severe structural damage to your home or business premises. In a major termite infestation, the repair bill can go into the hundreds of thousands, so it’s essential to have your property inspected regularly and treat it quickly.
Allstate Pest Control Adelaide is here to help you check for termites and resolve your infestation. Our treatments cover all Adelaide suburbs and include additional preventative measures.
Termite Inspections Adelaide
All buildings are prone to termite infestations, particularly those with a timber frame. CSIRO recommends getting a termite inspection at least annually, but more frequent inspections may be necessary depending on the risk level of your building.
Our Termite technicians carry out a detailed inspection of your building, which follows a comprehensive checklist. They check the interior, roof void, subfloor, exterior, outbuildings and the grounds to make sure no sign of termites is missed.
Upon completion, the termite technician will explain the findings to you and then provide you with a detailed report and termite control recommendations.
Types of Treatments
Allstate Pest Control Adelaide offers a variety of termite treatment methods depending on your situation. While our treatments are thorough and effective, we guarantee by offering customers up to a year of free spot treatments in case the termite problem returns.
We use high-quality products to prevent and manage termites, including Sentricon II Termite Control, Kordon Termite Barrier, and Premise Termite Control.
Why do you need Termite Control?
Termites feed on timber, including your home’s or commercial premises’ frames. If you have an infestation, it can cost thousands of dollars to repair the structural damage they cause. This is why it’s essential to have a regular termite inspection and prevention program.
Termites are attracted to moist environments, so it’s a wise idea to fix any leaks in your home and remove moisture in your building as part of your total termite prevention plan. Whether or not your property has been treated, it’s important to keep up with regular inspections from a pest control professional to prevent the risk of a second infestation.
What is Termite Protection?
Most builders protect your home from during the building phase by installing barriers made from metal and cement materials. Other methods include chemical solutions to deter them from your home. A chemical treatment can be applied to the ground around the home, causing them to avoid it. Both chemical repellents will help protect your home.
What is White Ant Control?
White ants are just another name for termites, thanks to their white and light brown colours. Allstate Pest Control Adelaide offers White Ant Control to prevent and exterminate timber-eating pests. Call us today to book a white ant inspection, control or removal pest service.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most effective treatment for termite infestation?
Subterranean termites (white ants) are relentless. The best defence is a combination of termite baits, treated zones, and termite monitoring. Starting with a full inspection by a termite control service reveals the right strategy and treatment processes that ensure worker termites and the likes don’t return for a second feast.
Can you treat termites yourself in Australia?
That’s only if you have a mild termite infestation. However, in most cases, termites feed 24/7 and hide in wall cavities. This makes professional treatment the only effective control method. Our licensed experts at Allstate Pest Control ensure effective termite control with proven solutions that last.
How much does a termite barrier cost in Australia?
The cost depends on your property size, construction type, and the barrier system used. On average, in Australia, a chemical barrier costs $1,500 to $5,000, while a baiting system may cost $2,500 to $5,000. This is a small price to pay to protect a home worth hundreds of thousands.
What is the most effective termite control?
The best termite control combines a visual termite inspection, bait stations, and treated zones. Targeting the central nest ensures the entire colony is prevented, not just the ones you see.
Is termite treatment worth the money?
Absolutely. Termite damage costs Australians over $1.5 billion a year—insurance won’t cover it. A small investment now saves thousands in structural repairs later. Prevention is always cheaper than rebuilding.
